Wool Combs with Covers

GENERAL PRODUCT SAFETY REGULATION (GPSR) INFORMATION

Intended Use:
Handcrafted matched pair of wool combs designed for hand-processing, opening, aligning, and preparing wool or other suitable fibers.

This set includes:

• Two matched wool combs
• Protective wooden comb covers
• Paracord sliding-knot retention system for securing the covers

The combs contain multiple sharp metal tines and must be handled as sharp fiber-processing tools.

The protective covers reduce the chance of accidental contact with the tines during storage and transport, but they do not eliminate the underlying sharp-point hazard.


CAUTION — SHARP TINES

The metal tines are intentionally sharp and are necessary for normal fiber preparation.

• Keep hands, fingers, face, loose clothing, hair, jewelry, and other objects away from the tine points

• Always hold the combs by their handles

• Work slowly and deliberately

• Keep hands behind the working area of the tines

• Do not reach across or press downward onto the tine field

• Keep away from children and pets

• These are fiber-processing tools, not toys


BEFORE EACH USE

Inspect both wool combs before use.

Do not use a comb if:

• A tine is loose, broken, severely bent, or damaged

• The wooden body or handle is cracked, split, severely warped, or damaged

• The handle is loose or unstable

• Structural damage is present around the tine field

• Hazardous splinters or sharp damaged wood edges are present

• Any other condition could interfere with safe or controlled use

Also inspect the protective covers and paracord retention system.

Do not rely on a cover if:

• The wood is cracked, split, warped, or damaged

• The paracord is badly frayed, cut, or damaged

• The sliding knot does not hold securely

• The cover no longer fits the intended comb correctly

• Damage allows the tine points to become unexpectedly exposed


SAFE HANDLING

Always grip each wool comb by its handle.

Keep the tine points directed away from your body and away from other people.

When setting a comb down:

• Place it where the tine points cannot be contacted accidentally

• Do not leave the tine field projecting into a walkway or work area

• Do not place the comb where it may fall from a table or bench

Never carry a comb by the tine field.


USING THE COMBS

Use controlled hand movements when combing fiber.

When working with the matched pair:

• Maintain a secure grip on both handles

• Keep fingers and hands away from both tine fields

• Keep the working comb under control throughout each stroke

• Do not allow the metal tine points of the two combs to strike one another

• Do not use excessive force

• Keep other people and pets clear of the working area

If fiber becomes tightly caught:

• Stop combing

• Reduce tension

• Remove or reposition the fiber carefully

• Do not pull suddenly toward the tine points


LOADING FIBER

Load fiber onto the tines carefully.

Do not force an excessive quantity of fiber onto the comb.

Keep fingers behind and away from the tine points while loading.

Use only enough fiber to maintain controlled combing movements.


TINE SAFETY

Before and during use, confirm that:

• Tines remain securely installed

• Tines are not severely bent or damaged

• Tines remain aligned well enough for normal use

• No tine has loosened from the wooden body

Stop using the comb before inspecting, straightening, repositioning, or repairing any tine.

Do not attempt tine repairs while actively processing fiber.


PROTECTIVE COMB COVERS

Install the protective covers whenever the combs are not in use where practical.

Before installing a cover:

• Stop using the comb

• Remove loose fiber from the tine field

• Hold the comb securely by the handle

• Keep hands away from the tine points

Carefully position the cover over the tine field.

Do not force the cover onto the tines.


PARACORD SLIDING-KNOT RETENTION

Each comb cover uses a paracord sliding-knot system to help hold the cover securely in place.

After positioning the cover:

• Adjust the paracord sliding knot until the cover is held securely

• Confirm the cord is not caught on or pressing against the tine points

• Confirm the cover does not lift or slide off unexpectedly

• Do not overtighten the paracord to the point that the cover, cord, or comb may be damaged

Before carrying or storing the covered comb, gently check that the cover remains secure.


REMOVING THE COVERS

Place or hold the comb securely before removing the cover.

Loosen the paracord sliding knot in a controlled manner.

Keep hands and fingers away from the tine field.

Remove the cover carefully without dragging it across the tine points.

Once the cover is removed, the sharp tines are fully exposed.


IMPORTANT — COVERS REDUCE, BUT DO NOT ELIMINATE, THE HAZARD

The protective covers are intended to reduce accidental contact with the sharp tines.

They do not make the wool combs safe for children or eliminate the need for careful handling.

Even with the covers installed:

• Do not press against the covered tine field

• Do not place heavy objects on the covers

• Do not carry the combs in a way that could cause the covers to release

• Keep the combs away from children and pets


CARE

• Remove loose fiber and debris after use

• Keep the wooden comb bodies, handles, and covers clean and dry

• Keep the metal tines dry

• Do not soak or submerge the combs or covers in water

• Do not use harsh cleaners or chemicals that could damage the wood, finish, metal components, or paracord

• Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth when necessary

• Dry all components thoroughly if they become damp

• Periodically inspect the tines, handles, covers, paracord, and sliding knots


STORAGE

Before storage:

• Clean excess fiber from the combs

• Install the protective covers where practical

• Secure each cover using its paracord sliding knot

Store the combs:

• In a clean, dry location

• Away from children and pets

• Away from excessive moisture

• Protected from heavy impacts or crushing

• Where the covered tine fields cannot snag clothing or surrounding objects

Do not place heavy objects directly on the covers or tine areas.


DISCONTINUE USE

Stop using a comb if:

• A tine becomes loose, broken, or severely bent

• The wooden body or handle cracks or splits

• The handle becomes loose

• Structural damage develops around the tine field

• Hazardous splinters or damaged edges develop

• Any condition prevents controlled and safe handling

Stop relying on a protective cover if:

• The cover cracks or splits

• The paracord becomes badly damaged

• The sliding knot no longer holds securely

• The cover no longer fits properly

• The tine points can become unexpectedly exposed
