♿ Accessibility Statement

At Riley Wood and Fiber Art, I believe fiber arts should be accessible to everyone—whether you're warping a loom, spinning a wheel, or discovering the joy of working with fiber for the first time. I'm deeply committed to making this shop usable by all people, regardless of ability, because everyone deserves access to the therapeutic, creative, and meditative benefits of fiber crafts.

🏆 WCAG AAA Compliant

I'm proud to share that Riley Wood and Fiber Art has achieved WCAG 2.1 Level AAA compliance—the highest standard of web accessibility. This compliance was self-assessed and self-implemented through rigorous testing and optimization to ensure the best possible experience for customers using assistive technologies.

Important Note: This accessibility status is self-guided and self-realized. While I have thoroughly tested my store against WCAG 2.1 Level AAA standards and implemented all required features, this compliance has not been formally evaluated or certified by a third-party accessibility auditing company. I am committed to maintaining these standards and welcome feedback from the accessibility community.

Compliance Achieved: March 2026

My Commitment to Accessibility

  • I meet and exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AAA—the gold standard for web accessibility.
  • I designed this shop with accessibility at its core, including clear navigation, descriptive alt text for all images, readable product descriptions, and keyboard-friendly interfaces.
  • I continuously review and improve the site to ensure compatibility with screen readers, magnifiers, voice recognition software, and other assistive technologies.
  • Every product, page, and feature has been tested for accessibility compliance.
  • I strive to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act through WCAG 2.1 Level AAA standards.

Accessibility Features You'll Find

  • Descriptive alt text on all product images so screen reader users can "see" my Turkish drop spindles, wool combs, hackles, boat shuttles, drive bands, and fiber art.
  • AAA-level color contrast (7:1 or higher) for maximum readability—no squinting required.
  • Keyboard-friendly navigation so you can browse, shop, and checkout without ever touching a mouse.
  • Skip to content links to bypass repetitive navigation for screen reader and keyboard users.
  • Accessible product descriptions that explain both technical details and creative possibilities in clear, structured language.
  • Proper heading hierarchy (H1, H2, H3) to help screen readers navigate content logically and efficiently.
  • Descriptive link text so you always know where a link will take you—no vague "click here" links.
  • Fully labeled forms with clear error messages, required field indicators, and instructions for contact, newsletter signup, and checkout.
  • Accessible tables with proper headers for pricing, specifications, and wholesale information.
  • New tab warnings on external links so screen readers announce when links open in new windows.
  • 16px readable body text for comfortable reading at any screen size.
  • Responsive design that works seamlessly across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
  • No time limits on browsing, shopping, or checkout processes.
  • No flashing or strobing content that could trigger seizures.

This website has been tested and optimized for compatibility with:

  • Screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack)

Why Accessibility Matters to Me

Fiber arts have brought me immense comfort, stress relief, and creative fulfillment. Spinning, weaving, and working with fiber are meditative practices that help me find calm in a busy world. I believe these experiences should be available to everyone—regardless of whether they're blind, deaf, have limited mobility, or use assistive technology.

Accessibility isn't just about compliance—it's about opening doors so more people can discover the wonderful world of fiber arts and experience the same joy, creativity, and therapeutic benefits that I've found in this craft.

Ongoing Commitment

Accessibility is an ongoing journey, not a destination. Just like spinning, weaving, or processing fiber—it takes practice, patience, and dedication. I'm committed to continuous improvement and welcome your feedback to help make this shop even better for everyone.

I regularly review and update this site to maintain WCAG AAA compliance as standards evolve and new assistive technologies emerge.

Known Limitations

While I strive for complete accessibility, some limitations may exist:

  • Third-party content: Payment processors, shipping calculators, and embedded social media may have their own accessibility standards. I work only with providers committed to accessibility.
  • PDF documents: If you need any PDF in an alternative format, please contact me and I'll provide it.
  • Legacy content: Older blog posts or archived content may not meet current AAA standards. I'm actively updating these.
