A yarn swift that locks in exactly where you need it — every time.
This Fully Adjustable Yarn Swift - gives you complete control over your skein length. Each arm features a sliding block with a thumbscrew — slide it to where you want it, tighten the thumbscrew by hand, and it stays exactly there until you're ready to change it. One arm is marked at the 1, 1.5, and 2-yard positions so you can dial in a perfect, consistent skein in seconds. But the sliders aren't limited to those marks — position them anywhere along the arm and lock them there.
Slightly heavier than my standard swift, as more should be expected out of this precision tool. It's built for crocheters, knitters, spinners & weavers who want precision without compromise.
Two Ways to Use It:
-
Skeining from a bobbin or center-pull ball: Slide each block to one of the marked positions — 1, 1.5, or 2 yards — and gently tighten the thumbscrew. Wind your yarn around the slider uprights, counting revolutions. Every wrap is a known, fixed length, so the math is simple: wraps × skein setting = total yards.
- Winding into a ball or cake: Place your existing skein on the swift, then slide each slider outward until it meets the skein snugly. Gently tighten the thumbscrew to hold that position. The swift now holds your skein at the correct tension for smooth, even winding onto a ball winder — no collapsing, no tangling.
Key Features:
- ✓ Fully adjustable sliders on every arm — sliders can be positioned anywhere on the arm, tighten the thumbscrew by hand to lock in place; loosen to adjust when a different skein size is needed
- ✓ One arm marked at 1, 1.5, and 2-yard positions for instant, repeatable skein lengths
- ✓ Slightly larger build for greater versatility with longer skeins
- ✓ Ultra-low 2.5" profile keeps yarn close to the tool — less arc, more control, for cleaner, more precise winding onto bobbins, ball winders, or shuttles
- ✓ Rubber feet on the base keep the swift firmly in place on any surface while you wind — no slipping, no chasing
- ✓ Square arms fit precisely into precision-cut square holes in the carousel for a solid, wobble-free connection at every setting
- ✓ Precision-crafted components and hand-fitted joinery — every part is built and assembled to exacting tolerances so the tool performs as refined as it looks
- ✓ Exceptionally balanced rotation — the carousel spins true and stays true, so winding and unwinding feel smooth and effortless from the first wrap to the last
- ✓ Every corner finished with a 45° chamfer for a smooth, refined feel in hand
- ✓ Included plastic washer lets you tune your winding experience — use it for reduced friction and faster, free-spinning winding, or remove it when maximum tension control is what the yarn demands
- ✓ Fully breaks down for compact storage — arms and carousel disassemble quickly and pack neatly into the included bag
- ✓ Includes a winding handle for smooth, comfortable skein winding by hand
- ✓ Proudly handcrafted in America
Three Marked Lengths. Lock In Anywhere.
- 1-yard setting — ideal for small samples and color tests; count wraps to track yardage precisely
- 1.5-yard setting — a practical middle ground for winding longer samples or smaller project skeins
- 2-yard setting — winds to the industry-standard skein length, perfect for dyeing, displaying, gifting, and calculating total yardage
- Any length in between — slide, lock, and wind at whatever position your project demands
Built for Crocheters, Knitters, Spinners & Weavers
Crocheters can use this swift to hold a hank or skein open and under light tension while winding yarn by hand or with a ball winder, helping keep the yarn from collapsing, twisting, or tangling before starting a project.
Knitters can use it to hold skeins at the right tension while winding yarn into balls or cakes, making it easier to prepare project yarn neatly before casting on.
Turkish Drop Spindle spinners can use this swift to wind finished bobbins into measured skeins, count yardage, prepare skeins for washing or dyeing, or unwind a skein smoothly onto a ball winder.
Weavers can use it to measure yarn before winding handmade boat shuttle bobbins, portion yarn for smaller projects, or prepare consistent lengths before moving to the loom.
However you work, the Fully Adjustable Yarn Swift is designed to fit naturally into your process.
Counting Yardage:
Because each revolution equals a fixed, known length, the math is simple: wraps × skein setting = total yards. Wind 50 wraps on the 2-yard setting and you have exactly 100 yards. No scale, no estimating — just an accurate count every time.
What's Included:
Each Yarn Swift - ships complete and ready to use: base with rubber feet, carousel, 4 arms, 4 sliders with thumbscrews, plastic washer, 1/4" handle, four 3/8" uprights, and a carry bag to keep everything together when you're not at the bench.
Care & Storage:
Wipe clean with a dry cloth after use. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight, which can cause wood to warp or check over time. Store flat or hang when not in use. Inspect the arms, sliders, and thumbscrews periodically — a well-cared-for hardwood tool will last for years of studio use.

Frequently Asked Questions — Adjustable Yarn Swift/Skeiner
What skein lengths does the Adjustable Yarn Swift/Skeiner make?
The swift winds skeins in three fixed lengths — 1 yard, 1.5 yards, and 2 yards. The arms lock into precision-cut square holes in the carousel at each setting, so every revolution is a known, exact distance. Count your wraps and multiply by your setting to get your total yardage — no scale, no guessing.
How do I calculate yardage with the swift?
The math is simple: wraps × skein setting = total yards. For example, 50 wraps on the 2-yard setting gives you exactly 100 yards. 30 wraps on the 1.5-yard setting gives you 45 yards. Because the arm length is fixed at each setting, every revolution is consistent.
Can I use this swift with a ball winder?
Yes — the swift works in both directions. Wind yarn onto the swift to measure and skein, or wind from the swift onto a ball winder to prep yarn for knitting or weaving. The rubber feet keep the base firmly in place on any surface while you wind.
What types of yarn or fiber can I wind on this swift?
The plastic washer gives you control over winding tension, so you can dial in the right resistance for whatever you're working with — from delicate lace singles to bulky worsted weight. It works with spun yarn, hand-dyed singles, plied yarn, and most fiber types.
Can weavers use this swift, or is it just for spinners?
It's built for both. Weavers can use it to wind boat shuttle bobbins or measure out a specific warp length — knowing exactly how many yards you have before you sit down at the loom. The fixed-length settings and tension control make it equally at home in a spinning studio or a weaving studio.
Does the swift come assembled, and how does storage work?
The swift ships complete and ready to use — no tools required. It fully breaks down for compact storage: the arms and carousel disassemble quickly and pack neatly into the included carry bag. It's easy to take to a fiber festival or tuck away between sessions.
What wood is the swift made from, and is there any finish applied?
The swift is made from premium hardwood with no finish applied — natural wood only. Every corner is finished with a 45° chamfer for a smooth, refined feel in hand. To care for it, wipe clean with a dry cloth and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight.
