Description for Standard Hackles:

Hackle; 3.5", 6", 12", or 18" - Standard made by Riley Wood and Fiber Art. These standard hackles are versatile, powerful tools for blending and combing all fiber types. With one, two, or three rows of tines, the tines are sharp and sturdy. With between 3" and 3.75" of exposed tine, they have room to add almost any fiber in pretty much any length desired. When used with a diz, making roving is a breeze.

Overall dimensions are between six and twenty-two inches by 1 1/4" by 1". The tines are seated ½" deep and following the taper, which is strictly an aesthetic choice. Except on the 3.5" hackle which is more or less meant to be a comb attached to a table without the combing pad. If you plan to always comb from a fixed comb, this option is great! I love the way these turned out and nobody's making their hackles like this. Making them more unique without losing functionality and capabilities. Each tine drops down an amount equal to the amount of taper on each side. Finished off with a beautiful 45° Chamfer on all edges.

These provide a full 3.5", 6", 12", or 18" of space from one end to the other. A total of between 12 and 213 tines.

To secure to a table or any other sturdy surface, there's a ½" ear, so to speak, on each side for a clamp. The holes are .25" diameter for an L-style hook.

As a tool for combing, de-vegging, straightening, aligning, and the overall general prepping of your fiber for spinning, or in preparation for carding. Creating roving is super easy with a diz (anything semi rigid with a small hole in it). Load on your mix of fibers and gently pull your roving through the hole as you glide along the width of the hackle.

Description for Standard Wool Combs:

These standard wool hand combs are hand crafted with great care, attention to detail, and from good quality materials. The head is Maple, and the handles are turned from Maple or Hickory. They are very light weight at 7-10 ounces per comb. Built tough with precision and durability in mind. Every detail won't mind your attention because attention to detail is my default 🤭.

Combing fiber can be relaxing and is a great hands-on experience, as you get to watch your progress pile up, you are ridding your fleece of vegetable matter and getting your fiber ready for carding or spinning.

They will fit ergonomically in your hands.

A light and powerful tool for combing all fiber types. These are standard combs. Made from Tempered Stainless. They will not rust or deteriorate over time.

Standard Tine Density: Spaced 1/4 inch apart between the rows and each other. There are between 12 and 46 tines in all.

The overall size of the head for a single row is 3 1/2" wide by 1" deep by 1" tall. The overall size of the head for a double, triple or quadruple row is 3 1/2" wide by 1 1/4" deep by 1" tall.

Standard configuration combs have the following number of tines:

Single Row: 12 tines

Double Row: 23 tines

Triple Row: 33 tines

Quadruple Row: 46 tines

The main purposes of combing fiber include but are not limited to straightening and aligning fibers, ridding fleece of vegetable and other loose matter and debris, separating and opening up fiber for carding, and loosening up the fiber for carding and eventually spinning.

The wood is hand rubbed with an eco-friendly Danish oil, sanded and then repeated until smooth. They are a set, and the heads of the combs are linearly matched or book matched, depending. These would not be suitable to comb a living sheep 🐑. Baaa!
