About the Hackle
Overall dimensions are between six and twenty-two inches by 1 1/4" by 1". The tines are seated ½" deep following the taper — strictly an aesthetic choice, except on the 3.5" hackle which is designed to be used as a fixed comb attached to a table. Each tine drops down an amount equal to the taper on each side, finished with a 45° chamfer on all edges. These provide a full 3", 6", 12", or 18" of working space from end to end.
Note: The 3.5" size refers to the equivalent comb head width — this hackle was designed as a direct replacement for a comb and combing pad setup at a comparable price point. The working tine area is 3".
To secure to a table or any other sturdy surface, there's a ½" ear on each side for a clamp. The holes are .25" diameter for an L-style hook.

How to Use
As a tool for combing, de-vegging, straightening, aligning, and the overall general prepping of your fiber for spinning or carding. Creating roving is super easy with a diz — load on your mix of fibers and gently pull your roving through the hole as you glide along the width of the hackle.

Frequently Asked Questions — Fine Tooth Wool Comb Set
What fibers are fine tooth wool combs designed for?
Fine tooth wool combs are optimized for fibers under 25 microns — merino, cashmere, qiviut, fine BFL, and silk blends. The closer tine spacing fully aligns delicate fibers without breakage, producing a smooth, lustrous preparation.
How do the comb and hackle work together?
One of the best techniques with this set is combing directly from the hackle — load your fiber onto the hackle, then use a single fine tooth comb to draw and align delicate fibers straight off the tines. This gives you a smooth, lustrous preparation with just one comb, making the hackle act as a fiber-holding station while you work.
What is included in the comb set?
The set includes a matched pair of fine tooth wool combs handcrafted from premium hardwoods, ready to use straight out of the box for fine fiber and luxury fiber preparation.
How do I care for my fine tooth wool combs?
Keep tines clean and free of fiber buildup after each use. A light application of camellia or mineral oil on the wood base periodically will protect the finish. Always store with tine covers to protect both the tips and your hands.
