Fine Tooth Wool/Fiber Hackle & Comb Set

GENERAL PRODUCT SAFETY REGULATION (GPSR) INFORMATION

Intended Use:
Handcrafted Fine Tooth Wool Hackle and Comb Set designed for preparing, opening, aligning, blending, and refining suitable wool and other compatible fibers.

This set includes:

• One Fine Tooth Wool Hackle

• One matched pair of Fine Tooth Wool Combs

The Fine Tooth configuration uses closely spaced sharp metal tines intended for controlled preparation of finer fibers.

Because exact tine count, spacing, row configuration, and hackle size may vary by selected product configuration, refer to the product option selected for the specific specifications.


CAUTION — SHARP METAL TINES

The hackle and combs contain numerous sharp metal tines capable of causing puncture or cut injuries.

• Handle the combs only by their wooden handles

• Keep hands, fingers, face, and other body parts away from the tine points

• Keep loose clothing, jewelry, hair, and other objects clear of the tines

• Keep the tools away from children and pets

• Do not leave uncovered tools where someone could accidentally contact the tines

• These are fiber-processing tools, not toys


BEFORE EACH USE

Inspect the Fine Tooth Hackle and both Fine Tooth Combs before use.

Do not use any component if:

• The wooden body, base, or handle is cracked, split, loose, or structurally damaged

• Any tine is loose, severely bent, broken, or damaged

• Hazardous splinters or sharp damaged wood edges are present

• The hackle cannot be mounted securely

• Either comb can no longer be held or controlled securely

• Any other condition could interfere with safe fiber preparation


SECURELY MOUNT THE HACKLE

The Fine Tooth Wool Hackle must be securely mounted to a suitable, stable work surface before use.

Use compatible mounting hardware or a secure mounting method appropriate for the hackle and work surface.

Before loading or processing fiber, confirm that:

• The hackle is firmly secured

• The work surface is stable

• The hackle does not rock, slide, tip, or rotate unexpectedly

• Mounting hardware does not interfere with the tine field or working area

Do not use the hackle while holding it by hand.

Do not begin fiber preparation until the hackle is securely mounted.


FINE TOOTH CONFIGURATION

Fine Tooth Hackles and Combs have closely spaced sharp tines.

This configuration is intended for controlled preparation of appropriate fibers.

Because the tines are closely spaced:

• Work with manageable amounts of fiber

• Avoid overloading the tine field

• Do not force dense, matted, heavily felted, or resistant fiber through the tines

• Reduce the amount of fiber if excessive resistance develops

• Stop and remove tangled material rather than forcing it through

Excessive force can reduce control and may damage the tines or wooden components.


LOADING THE HACKLE

Load fiber onto the Fine Tooth Hackle carefully.

• Keep fingers behind and away from the tine points

• Add fiber in controlled amounts

• Do not push fiber downward with the palm of your hand

• Do not force fiber deeply toward the wooden base of the tines

• Keep your body clear of the tine field

Avoid overloading the hackle.

If fiber resists normal movement through the fine tines, reduce the amount of fiber or prepare it further before continuing.


USING THE COMBS WITH THE HACKLE

When using the Fine Tooth Combs with the mounted Fine Tooth Hackle:

• Maintain a firm grip on the comb handle

• Keep the comb tine field oriented away from your body

• Work slowly and deliberately

• Maintain sufficient clearance between your hands and the hackle tines

• Keep other people and pets outside the working area

• Avoid sudden or uncontrolled movements

• Stop immediately if your grip becomes unstable

Do not strike the comb against the hackle.

Do not force comb tines through the hackle tine field.


USING THE COMBS AS A MATCHED PAIR

The Fine Tooth Wool Combs may also be used together as a matched pair where appropriate.

Before use:

• Confirm both combs are structurally sound

• Confirm the tine fields are undamaged

• Maintain controlled movement and adequate clearance

• Keep the tine points directed away from your body

Do not allow the tine fields to collide.

Do not use excessive force to pull one comb through the other.


REMOVING OR TRANSFERRING FIBER

Use care whenever removing prepared fiber from the hackle or combs.

• Keep fingers away from the tine points

• Work from a controlled angle

• Do not reach suddenly into the tine field

• Do not pull resistant fiber with excessive force

• Stop and reposition the fiber if it becomes caught

Use a suitable controlled method for removing trapped fiber without placing fingers among the sharp tines.


TINE CONTACT

The metal tines are intentionally sharp.

Do not:

• Touch or test the tine points with your fingers

• Use your hand to clear fiber from between sharp tines

• Catch a falling comb

• Carry combs with the tine points directed toward your body

• Place uncovered combs tine-side-up on chairs, floors, or other areas where accidental contact could occur

• Lean over or reach across the mounted hackle tine field


WORK AREA

Use the Fine Tooth Hackle and Comb Set in a stable, well-lit work area.

Maintain sufficient clearance around the mounted hackle and the full movement path of the combs.

Keep the working area free from unnecessary objects.

Do not position the hackle where someone could accidentally walk into or fall onto the tine field.


TINE CARE

Periodically inspect all tines for:

• Looseness

• Severe bending

• Breakage

• Corrosion

• Other damage

Do not continue using a component if damaged tines create an unpredictable or hazardous condition.

Do not attempt to straighten or repair a tine while the tool is positioned in a way that exposes you to surrounding sharp tines.


WOODEN COMPONENTS

The hackle body and comb bodies and handles are made from natural wood.

Natural variations may include:

• Grain

• Color

• Figure

• Texture

• Surface appearance

These variations are expected.

Wood may respond to changes in temperature and humidity.

Discontinue use if structural cracking, splitting, severe warping, or hazardous splintering develops.


CARE

• Remove loose fiber from the hackle and combs after use

• Keep wooden components clean and dry

• Keep the metal tines dry

• Do not soak or submerge the tools in water

• Do not place the tools in a dishwasher

• Do not use harsh cleaners, solvents, or chemicals that could damage the wood or metal

• Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth when necessary

• Dry all components completely if they become damp

• Inspect the tines, wooden structure, and mounting points regularly


STORAGE

When not in use:

• Remove the hackle from the working position if appropriate

• Store the hackle and combs in a clean, dry location

• Protect all tine fields from accidental contact

• Use compatible protective covers where available

• Keep the tools away from children and pets

• Do not place heavy objects on the tines

• Do not store the tools where exposed tine points can contact people or damage other objects

• Keep away from excessive moisture and corrosive environments


DISCONTINUE USE

Stop using any component if:

• A tine becomes loose, severely bent, broken, or otherwise hazardous

• A wooden body, base, or handle cracks, splits, or becomes structurally damaged

• Hazardous splinters develop

• The hackle can no longer be mounted securely

• A comb becomes difficult to control safely

• Severe warping affects normal use

• Any condition develops that could interfere with safe fiber preparation
