Wool Combs - Curly Maple

GENERAL PRODUCT SAFETY REGULATION (GPSR) INFORMATION

Intended Use:
Handcrafted Curly Maple wool combs designed for hand-processing, opening, aligning, and preparing wool or other suitable fibers.

Available Configurations:
• 2-Row Standard
• 2-Row Fine
• 3-Row Standard
• 3-Row Fine

These combs contain multiple sharp metal tines and must be handled as sharp fiber-processing tools.

The exact tine count, spacing, and arrangement vary according to the selected configuration.


CAUTION — SHARP TINES

The metal tines are intentionally sharp and are necessary for normal fiber preparation.

• Keep hands, fingers, face, loose clothing, hair, jewelry, and other objects away from the tine points

• Always hold the combs by their handles

• Work slowly and deliberately

• Keep hands behind the working area of the tines

• Do not reach across or press downward onto the tine field

• Keep away from children and pets

• These are fiber-processing tools, not toys


BEFORE EACH USE

Inspect both wool combs before use.

Do not use a comb if:

• A tine is loose, broken, severely bent, or damaged

• The Curly Maple body or handle is cracked, split, severely warped, or damaged

• The handle is loose or unstable

• Structural damage is present around the tine field

• Hazardous splinters or sharp damaged wood edges are present

• Any other condition could interfere with safe or controlled use


CONFIGURATION

Use the combs according to the selected tine configuration.

The 2-row and 3-row models, as well as Standard and Fine configurations, have different tine arrangements intended for different fiber-preparation needs.

Before use:

• Confirm both combs in the pair match the intended configuration

• Inspect the full tine field for damage

• Use an amount of fiber appropriate for the selected tine spacing and number of rows

• Do not force fiber through the combs if it is not moving normally


SAFE HANDLING

Always grip each wool comb by its handle.

Keep the tine points directed away from your body and away from other people.

When setting a comb down:

• Place it where the tine points cannot be contacted accidentally

• Do not leave the tine field projecting into a walkway or work area

• Do not place the comb where it may fall from a table or bench

Never carry a comb by the tine field.


USING THE COMBS

Use controlled hand movements when combing fiber.

When working with the matched pair:

• Maintain a secure grip on both handles

• Keep fingers and hands away from both tine fields

• Keep the working comb under control throughout each stroke

• Do not allow the metal tine points of the two combs to strike one another

• Do not use excessive force

• Keep other people and pets clear of the working area

If fiber becomes tightly caught:

• Stop combing

• Reduce tension

• Remove or reposition the fiber carefully

• Do not pull suddenly toward the tine points


LOADING FIBER

Load fiber onto the tines carefully.

Do not force an excessive quantity of fiber onto the combs.

Keep fingers behind and away from the tine points while loading.

Use only enough fiber to maintain controlled combing movements.

Fine and Standard configurations may behave differently with different fibers, so adjust the amount of fiber and working pressure accordingly.


TINE SAFETY

Before and during use, confirm that:

• Tines remain securely installed

• Tines are not severely bent or damaged

• Tines remain aligned well enough for normal use

• No tine has loosened from the wooden body

Stop using the comb before inspecting, straightening, repositioning, or repairing a tine.

Do not attempt tine repairs while actively processing fiber.


CURLY MAPLE

Curly Maple is a natural wood and may vary in:

• Grain

• Figure

• Color

• Texture

• Surface appearance

These natural variations are expected.

Discontinue use if the wood develops structural cracking, splitting, severe warping, or hazardous splintering.


CARE

• Remove loose fiber and debris after use

• Keep the Curly Maple bodies and handles clean and dry

• Keep metal tines dry

• Do not soak or submerge the wool combs in water

• Do not use harsh cleaners or chemicals that could damage the wood, finish, or metal components

• Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth when necessary

• Dry all components thoroughly if they become damp

• Periodically inspect the tines, handles, and wooden bodies


STORAGE

Store the wool combs:

• In a clean, dry location

• With the tine points protected from accidental contact where practical

• Away from children and pets

• Away from excessive moisture

• Protected from heavy impacts or crushing

• Where the tine fields cannot snag clothing or other objects

Do not place heavy objects directly on the tines.


DISCONTINUE USE

Stop using a comb if:

• A tine becomes loose, broken, or severely bent

• The wooden body or handle cracks or splits

• The handle becomes loose

• Structural damage develops around the tine field

• Hazardous splinters or sharp damaged wood edges develop

• Any condition prevents controlled and safe handling
