Cardboard Weaving Quills - Boat Shuttle Bobbins

GENERAL PRODUCT SAFETY REGULATION (GPSR) INFORMATION

Intended Use:
Lightweight cardboard weaving quills / boat shuttle bobbins designed to hold weft yarn inside compatible Riley Wood and Fiber Art boat shuttles.

Available Sizes:
• 3.5"
• 5"
• 6"

Standard Boat Shuttles use one quill.

Double Bobbin Boat Shuttles use two 3.5" quills.


CAUTION — ROTATING COMPONENT

Once installed, the quill becomes part of a moving weaving tool.

• Stop weaving before installing, removing, repositioning, or inspecting a quill

• Keep fingers and hands away from the quill and axle area while the shuttle is moving

• Keep away from children and pets

• This is a weaving-tool component, not a toy


BEFORE EACH USE

Inspect the quill before winding or installation.

Do not use the quill if:

• It is crushed, flattened, bent, torn, or punctured

• The cardboard layers are separating

• Either end is severely damaged

• The center opening is blocked or collapsed

• The quill no longer fits the intended shuttle axle normally

• The quill does not rotate freely

• It has become wet, softened, contaminated, or structurally weakened

• Any damage could interfere with normal use


CORRECT SIZE & COMPATIBILITY

Use the quill size intended for the shuttle.

Do not force an oversized or incompatible quill into the shuttle.

Confirm that:

• The quill fits within the intended shuttle

• The axle passes through the quill normally

• The quill rotates freely

• The ends do not bind against the shuttle body or washers


WINDING YARN

Wind yarn onto the quill evenly.

Do not overfill the quill.

Excessive yarn buildup may:

• Prevent free rotation

• Rub against the shuttle body

• Interfere with yarn feeding

• Place unnecessary pressure on the cardboard tube

If the quill begins to deform while winding, stop and replace it.


STANDARD BOAT SHUTTLE

Standard Boat Shuttles use one quill.

The intended axle arrangement is:

Washer – Quill – Washer

Before weaving, confirm that:

• The quill slides onto the axle normally

• Both washers are correctly positioned

• The quill rotates freely

• The axle is properly secured

Stop weaving before changing or repositioning the quill.


DOUBLE BOBBIN BOAT SHUTTLE

The 12" Double Bobbin Boat Shuttle uses two 3.5" quills.

The intended axle arrangement is:

Washer – Quill – Two Washers – Quill – Washer

Before weaving, confirm that:

• Both quills fit normally

• Both quills rotate freely

• All washers are correctly positioned

• The two center washers separate the quills correctly

• Neither quill interferes with the other

• The axle is properly secured


SAFE USE

Do not attempt to adjust, remove, or reposition a quill while the shuttle is moving.

Stop weaving before servicing the quill or axle.

Do not continue using a damaged quill simply because yarn has already been wound onto it.

Replace the quill if damage interferes with:

• Free rotation

• Structural integrity

• Yarn feeding

• Proper fit on the axle


MOISTURE & CARDBOARD CARE

Cardboard can weaken when exposed to moisture.

Keep quills dry.

Do not:

• Soak or wash the quills

• Store them in damp conditions

• Use a quill that has become water-damaged or softened

If a quill becomes significantly wet, replace it rather than attempting to restore it for continued use.


CARE & STORAGE

• Keep unused quills clean and dry

• Protect them from crushing and bending

• Keep them away from oils, grease, and other contamination

• Do not use harsh cleaners or chemicals on the cardboard

• Store in a dry location

• Do not place heavy objects on the quills

• Protect them from sharp hardware


DISCONTINUE USE

Discard and replace a quill if:

• It becomes crushed or deformed

• The cardboard begins separating

• The center opening collapses

• It becomes significantly wet or softened

• It no longer rotates freely

• It no longer fits the intended axle normally

• Any structural damage develops that could interfere with normal operation
