Two bobbins. Instant color changes. Precision weft control. The Double Bobbin Open Bottom Boat Shuttle gives you everything the closed bottom version does — two 3.5" bobbins for instant color changes and up to four-color weaving — with the added advantage of an open bottom design. Lighter in hand, faster across the warp, and open below the bobbin so you can apply tension from above or below for precise, accurate picks every time. Handcrafted in Spokane, WA from premium hardwoods and shaped for smooth, effortless throws across your loom.
Key Features:
- ✓ Holds two 3.5" boat shuttle bobbins simultaneously — instant color changes
- ✓ 12" length — same proven dimensions as my standard 12" Slim Boat Shuttle
- ✓ Six premium hardwoods — Maple, Cherry, Walnut, Purple Heart, Padauk, Quartersawn White Oak
- ✓ Open bottom design — Lighter weight and faster glide across warp threads
- ✓ Open bottom access — Apply weft tension above or below the bobbin for precise, accurate picks
- ✓ Dual yarn guides — Smooth yarn exit in both directions, no catching
- ✓ Ergonomic shape — Comfortable grip reduces hand fatigue
- ✓ Hand-sanded smooth finish — Eco-friendly Danish oil (except Padauk, left natural)
- ✓ Lightweight hardwood construction — Swift, agile movement for efficient weaving
What's Included:
One Open Bottom Double Bobbin Boat Shuttle (12"), bobbin axle (1/16" music wire), 4 small washers, and two 3.5" cardboard quills.
Why Choose This Shuttle?
This isn't just a tool — it's an extension of your creative expression. With two bobbins loaded and ready, you can switch colors instantly mid-row or weave with up to four colors at once. The open bottom design makes this shuttle lighter and faster than its closed bottom counterpart, and gives you the ability to add tension to your weft from above or below the bobbin — a subtle but powerful advantage for weavers who demand clean, consistent picks.
