A warping board built for weavers who care about precision.

Winding a warp should be the most meditative part of your weaving process — not a source of tangles, uneven tension, or miscounted lengths. This handcrafted hardwood Warping Board is designed to wind smooth, consistent warps with absolute control over length and tension, so every thread arrives at the loom ready to weave.

Available in two sizes — 4.5 yards and 13 yards — to suit everything from small rigid heddle projects to longer floor loom warps. Both sizes let you wind to any increment within their range, so one board covers a wide variety of project lengths.

Built with the same attention to craft as every tool that leaves my bench, it's designed to be a working part of your studio — not a wall decoration.

Key Features:

  • ✓ Hardwood pegs glued permanently in place — no wobble, no shifting, no loose parts mid-warp
  • ✓ Pegs protrude 6.5" for a secure, comfortable grip on every pass
  • ✓ Two D-rings on the top stile and two ¼" holes on the bottom stile for flexible mounting — wall hang or table clamp
  • ✓ Wind any whole-yard length (13-yard board) or any half-yard length (4.5-yard board) within the board's range
  • ✓ Winds consistent, even tension across every thread for a smooth, tangle-free warp
  • ✓ Every corner finished with a 45° chamfer for a smooth, refined feel in hand
  • ✓ Made from premium hardwood with the same exacting standards as every tool that leaves my bench
  • ✓ Proudly handcrafted in America

Wind Any Length. Not Just One.

The 13-yard board lets you wind any whole-yard length from 1 to 13 yards — wind a 2-yard sample warp just as easily as a full 13-yard project warp, all on the same board. The 4.5-yard board lets you wind any half-yard length from ½ to 4½ yards, giving you precise control over shorter warps. Whatever your project calls for, you wind exactly that — no more, no less.

Two Ways to Mount. One Solid Board.

The Warping Board is designed to work the way you work. Hang it on the wall using the two D-rings on the top stile for convenient storage and casual winding. Or use hackle hooks through the two ¼" holes on the bottom stile to clamp it firmly to your table — my preferred method for active winding, where a rock-solid board makes all the difference in keeping tension consistent from the first thread to the last.

How to Use:

Secure the board to your table using hackle hooks through the bottom stile holes, or hang it on the wall using the D-rings on the top stile. Tie your warp thread to the first peg and wind back and forth across the pegs to your desired length, counting each pass to track your thread count — on the 13-yard board each full circuit adds one yard, and on the 4.5-yard board each increment adds a half yard. Tie off your cross using the two dedicated cross pegs on the top stile before removing the warp to keep threads in order at the loom.

What's Included:

  • 4.5-yard board: 2 maple rails (1" × 1.25") with 5 pegs each, a top stile (17") with 2 cross pegs and 2 D-rings, a bottom stile (17"), 4 hex head bolts (1½"), and 4 #12 × .562" washers for assembly.
  • 13-yard board: 2 maple rails (1" × 1.25") with 7 pegs each, a top stile (34") with 2 cross pegs and 2 D-rings, a bottom stile (34"), 4 hex head bolts (1½"), and 4 #12 × .562" washers for assembly.

Care & Storage:

Wipe clean with a dry cloth after use. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight, which can cause wood to warp or check over time. Hang on the wall using the built-in D-rings when not in use. A well-cared-for hardwood tool will last for years of studio use.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this or any of my products, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm always here to answer questions and give advice or tips on any of my products and their uses. I typically respond within five minutes, which I believe is extremely important in building rapport, credibility, and getting to know you as a customer.

Frequently Asked Questions — Warping Board

The Warping Board is available in two sizes — 4.5 yards and 13 yards. The 4.5-yard board is ideal for shorter warps and rigid heddle projects, while the 13-yard board handles longer floor loom warps. Both sizes let you wind to any increment within their range, so one board covers a wide variety of project lengths.

Each full circuit around the pegs equals a fixed, known length — one yard on the 13-yard board, and one half-yard on the 4.5-yard board. Count your passes as you wind and you always know exactly how much warp you have. No measuring tape, no estimating — just an accurate count every time.

The 13-yard board lets you wind any whole-yard length from 1 to 13 yards. The 4.5-yard board lets you wind any half-yard length from ½ to 4½ yards. Whatever your project calls for, you wind exactly that — no more, no less.

The board can be hung on the wall using the two D-rings on the top stile for convenient storage and casual winding. Or you can use hackle hooks through the two 1/4" holes on the bottom stile to clamp it firmly to a table — the preferred method for active winding, where a rock-solid board makes all the difference in keeping tension consistent from the first thread to the last.

The main difference is warp capacity and increment size. The 4.5-yard board winds in half-yard increments up to 4½ yards — great for rigid heddle weavers and shorter projects. The 13-yard board winds in whole-yard increments up to 13 yards, making it the right choice for floor loom weavers and longer project warps. Both boards use the same quality construction and mounting system.

The rails are made from maple — a dense, stable hardwood that holds up to years of active use. No finish is applied, so the wood stays natural. Every corner is finished with a 45° chamfer for a smooth, refined feel in hand. A well-cared-for hardwood warping board will last for generations of studio use.

Absolutely. The 4.5-yard board is a natural fit for rigid heddle weavers who typically work with shorter warps, while the 13-yard board handles the longer warps that floor loom projects demand. Both boards give you the same precise length control and consistent tension — the right size just depends on how long your warps typically run.
