6" Standard Wool/Fiber Hackle Set - Single and Double Row

GENERAL PRODUCT SAFETY REGULATION (GPSR) INFORMATION

Intended Use:
Handcrafted 6" Wool Hackle Set designed for opening, aligning, blending, and preparing suitable wool and other compatible fibers.

This set includes:

• One 6" Standard Single-Row Wool Hackle

• One 6" Standard Double-Row Wool Hackle

The two hackles provide different tine configurations for different stages or styles of fiber preparation.

Because tine count and exact spacing may vary by configuration, refer to the selected product specifications for the exact details of each hackle.


CAUTION — SHARP METAL TINES

Both hackles contain numerous sharp metal tines capable of causing puncture or cut injuries.

• Keep hands, fingers, face, and other body parts away from the tine points

• Keep loose clothing, jewelry, hair, and other objects clear of the tines

• Keep the hackles away from children and pets

• Do not leave the hackles uncovered where someone could accidentally contact the tine fields

• These are fiber-processing tools, not toys


BEFORE EACH USE

Inspect both hackles before use.

Do not use either hackle if:

• The wooden body is cracked, split, loose, or structurally damaged

• Any tine is loose, severely bent, broken, or damaged

• Hazardous splinters or sharp damaged wood edges are present

• The hackle cannot be mounted securely

• Any mounting point or hardware is damaged

• Any other condition could interfere with safe fiber preparation


SECURE MOUNTING

Each hackle must be securely mounted to a suitable, stable work surface before use.

Before loading or processing fiber, confirm that:

• The selected hackle is firmly secured

• The work surface is stable

• The hackle does not rock, slide, tip, or rotate unexpectedly

• Mounting hardware is secure

• Mounting hardware does not interfere with the tine field or working area

Do not use either hackle while holding it by hand.

Do not begin fiber preparation until the hackle is securely mounted.


SINGLE-ROW HACKLE

The Standard Single-Row Wool Hackle uses one row of sharp metal tines.

It may be used for tasks such as:

• Opening fiber

• Separating locks

• Initial alignment

• Blending compatible fibers

• Controlled fiber preparation before further processing

Work with manageable amounts of fiber.

Do not overload the tine field or force dense, heavily matted, felted, or resistant fiber through the tines.


DOUBLE-ROW HACKLE

The Standard Double-Row Wool Hackle uses two rows of sharp metal tines.

The additional row may provide more engagement with the fiber during preparation.

Because the double-row configuration places more tines in the working area:

• Work with controlled amounts of fiber

• Avoid overloading the tine field

• Reduce the amount of fiber if excessive resistance develops

• Do not force dense, matted, heavily felted, or resistant fiber through the tines

• Stop and remove tangled material rather than forcing it through

Excessive force can reduce control and may damage the tines or wooden body.


LOADING FIBER

Load fiber onto either hackle carefully.

• Keep fingers behind and away from the tine points

• Add fiber in controlled amounts

• Do not push fiber downward with the palm of your hand

• Do not force fiber deeply toward the wooden base of the tines

• Keep your body clear of the tine field

Avoid overloading either hackle.

If fiber resists normal movement, reduce the amount of fiber or prepare it further before continuing.


SAFE USE

Use the hackles in a stable, well-lit work area.

During use:

• Keep hands and fingers clear of the tine points

• Work slowly and deliberately

• Keep other people and pets outside the working area

• Maintain sufficient clearance around the mounted hackle

• Avoid sudden or uncontrolled movements

• Stop immediately if the hackle shifts or the mounting becomes unstable

Do not lean over, reach across, or place your body directly above the tine field.


USING COMBS OR OTHER COMPATIBLE TOOLS

If using a compatible Wool Comb or another suitable fiber-preparation tool with either hackle:

• Confirm the hackle remains securely mounted

• Maintain a firm grip on the other tool

• Keep hands clear of both tine fields

• Work slowly and deliberately

• Maintain sufficient clearance between tools

• Do not strike one tine field against another

• Do not force comb tines through the hackle tine field

Stop if excessive resistance develops.


REMOVING OR TRANSFERRING FIBER

Use care whenever removing prepared fiber from either hackle.

• Keep fingers away from the tine points

• Work from a controlled angle

• Do not reach suddenly into the tine field

• Do not pull resistant fiber with excessive force

• Stop and reposition the fiber if it becomes caught

Use a suitable controlled method for removing trapped fiber without placing fingers among the sharp tines.


TINE CONTACT

The metal tines are intentionally sharp.

Do not:

• Touch or test the tine points with your fingers

• Use your hand to clear fiber from between sharp tines

• Place a hackle where someone could accidentally fall onto or brush against the tine field

• Carry a hackle with exposed tines directed toward your body

• Leave a mounted hackle unattended in an exposed working position where accidental contact is likely


TINE CARE

Periodically inspect the tines on both hackles for:

• Looseness

• Severe bending

• Breakage

• Corrosion

• Other damage

Do not continue using a hackle if damaged tines create an unpredictable or hazardous condition.

Do not attempt to straighten or repair a tine while positioned in a way that exposes your hands to surrounding sharp tines.


WOODEN COMPONENTS

The hackle bodies are made from natural wood.

Natural variations may include:

• Grain

• Color

• Figure

• Texture

• Surface appearance

These variations are expected.

Wood may respond to changes in temperature and humidity.

Discontinue use if structural cracking, splitting, severe warping, or hazardous splintering develops.


CARE

• Remove loose fiber from both hackles after use

• Keep the wooden bodies clean and dry

• Keep the metal tines dry

• Do not soak or submerge the hackles in water

• Do not place the hackles in a dishwasher

• Do not use harsh cleaners, solvents, or chemicals that could damage the wood or metal

• Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth when necessary

• Dry all components completely if they become damp

• Inspect tine fields, wooden bodies, and mounting points regularly


STORAGE

When not in use:

• Remove the hackles from the working position if appropriate

• Store both hackles in a clean, dry location

• Protect the tine fields from accidental contact

• Use compatible protective covers where available

• Keep the hackles away from children and pets

• Do not place heavy objects on the tines

• Do not store the hackles where exposed tine points can contact people or damage other objects

• Keep away from excessive moisture and corrosive environments


DISCONTINUE USE

Stop using either hackle if:

• A tine becomes loose, severely bent, broken, or otherwise hazardous

• The wooden body cracks, splits, or becomes structurally damaged

• Hazardous splinters develop

• The hackle can no longer be mounted securely

• Severe warping affects normal use

• Any condition develops that could interfere with safe fiber preparation
