Studio Hooks

GENERAL PRODUCT SAFETY REGULATION (GPSR) INFORMATION

Intended Use:
Handcrafted Studio Hooks designed to secure compatible Riley Wood and Fiber Art fiber and weaving tools to a suitable loom beam, table edge, or other appropriate support surface.

Compatible Riley Wood and Fiber Art tools include:

• Weaving Raddles

• Warping Boards

• Wool Hackles

Studio Hooks use a metal hook through the tool's mounting hole, a wooden block against or beneath the supporting surface, and a thumbscrew tightened by hand to secure the assembly.


CAUTION — CLAMPING & PINCH HAZARD

Studio Hooks create clamping pressure when tightened.

• Keep fingers clear of the hook, wooden block, thumbscrew, tool, and supporting surface while tightening

• Tighten slowly and deliberately

• Do not place fingers between the wooden block and the mounting surface

• Do not place fingers between the tool and the supporting surface

• Keep away from children and pets

• Studio Hooks are tool-mounting accessories, not toys


BEFORE EACH USE

Inspect both Studio Hooks before mounting a tool.

Do not use a Studio Hook if:

• The metal hook is bent, cracked, loose, or damaged

• The thumbscrew is bent, stripped, loose, or damaged

• The wooden block is cracked, split, severely worn, or damaged

• Threads do not engage or tighten normally

• The hook cannot pass through the intended mounting hole normally

• Any component is unstable

• Any damage could interfere with secure mounting


SURFACE COMPATIBILITY

The user is responsible for confirming that the intended loom beam, table edge, or other mounting surface is suitable for clamping.

Before installation, check that:

• The surface is stable and structurally sound

• The edge or beam can support the mounted tool

• The surface is not excessively thin, weak, loose, or damaged

• The Studio Hook can sit securely without slipping

• Clamping pressure will not damage a delicate surface or finish

Use protective material between the wooden block and mounting surface if needed to protect a delicate finish.


INSTALLATION

Use the Studio Hooks only with compatible mounting holes and suitable supporting surfaces.

To install:

• Position the tool at the intended mounting location

• Insert the metal hook through the tool's mounting hole

• Position the wooden block securely against or beneath the supporting surface

• Make sure the hook and block are properly aligned

• Tighten the thumbscrew by hand until the tool is held securely

• Repeat for the second Studio Hook where two-hook mounting is required

After installation, gently test the mounted tool for movement before beginning work.


HAND-TIGHTEN ONLY

Tighten Studio Hook thumbscrews by hand.

Do not use pliers, wrenches, locking tools, or other tools to increase tightening force unless specifically instructed for service.

Do not overtighten.

Excessive tightening may:

• Damage the Studio Hook

• Damage the mounted tool

• Damage the loom, table, or supporting surface

• Crush or mark wood

• Strip threads

• Cause mounting components to fail


SECURE MOUNTING

Before using the mounted tool, confirm that:

• Both Studio Hooks are seated correctly where applicable

• The tool does not rock, slide, rotate, or lift unexpectedly

• The wooden blocks remain firmly against the support surface

• The thumbscrews remain secure

• The metal hooks remain properly positioned through the mounting holes

Stop immediately if the tool becomes loose or shifts during use.

Retighten or reposition the Studio Hooks before continuing.


USE WITH WOOL HACKLES

Wool Hackles contain sharp metal tines.

When mounting a Wool Hackle:

• Keep hands, arms, face, and clothing away from the tine points

• Secure the hackle before processing fiber

• Confirm both Studio Hooks are firmly installed before applying working pressure

• Do not attempt to adjust the Studio Hooks while actively processing fiber

• Stop work before repositioning the hackle


USE WITH WEAVING RADDLES

Weaving Raddles contain protruding metal nails.

When mounting a Raddle:

• Keep hands and fingers clear of the nail field

• Confirm the raddle is stable before placing warp groups

• Do not adjust the Studio Hooks while working within the nail field

• Stop work before repositioning or removing the raddle


USE WITH WARPING BOARDS

Warping Boards have projecting wooden pegs and may be subjected to repeated yarn tension while winding.

When mounting a Warping Board:

• Confirm both Studio Hooks are securely installed before winding

• Apply controlled yarn tension

• Stop winding if the board moves, rocks, or shifts

• Do not adjust the Studio Hooks while yarn is under active tension


REMOVAL

Stop using the mounted tool before removing the Studio Hooks.

Support the tool with one hand or otherwise secure it before loosening the hooks.

Loosen the thumbscrews gradually.

Keep fingers clear of areas where the tool or wooden block may move when clamping pressure is released.

Remove the tool in a controlled manner.


CARE

• Remove fiber, dust, and debris after use

• Keep metal and wooden components clean and dry

• Do not soak or submerge the Studio Hooks in water

• Periodically inspect threads, hooks, thumbscrews, and wooden blocks

• Do not use harsh cleaners or chemicals that could damage the wood or metal components

• Dry thoroughly if the Studio Hooks become damp


STORAGE

Store Studio Hooks:

• In a clean, dry location

• With thumbscrews loosened rather than under unnecessary long-term clamping pressure

• Away from excessive moisture

• Protected from heavy impacts or crushing

• Where the metal hooks cannot snag clothing or other objects

• Away from children and pets


DISCONTINUE USE

Stop using a Studio Hook if:

• The metal hook bends, cracks, or becomes damaged

• The thumbscrew or threads become stripped or damaged

• The wooden block cracks or splits

• The assembly will no longer tighten securely

• The hook repeatedly slips from the intended mounting position

• Any condition develops that could prevent secure mounting
