These Hackle Covers will protect your hackle tines from damage, prevent injuries to you and others, and help ensure safety when left unattended, when traveling, or around curious children.

If you think you'll want one of these protective covers, I advise you to purchase it at the same time you buy your hackle. That way I can ensure it will fit and be the correct size/length for your hackle. The reason for this is because I have modified and made subsequent models better. If you are buying these together with a hackle, I may have a listing for that specifically and you will save a few dollars.

A precision recess that perfectly matches the hackle tine configuration. The recess even matches the tines' tapering on each side. They will effortlessly slide over the tines with no play between the wood and tines.

You can even attach the covers in a hurry with fiber on if necessary. You can also have the cover on while diz'ing or blending/combing. This is especially helpful if you have curious cats, dogs, or children around.

For maximum safety, use C-Clamps to attach your hackle. This allows the pins to secure the cover completely.

The pins are made from 275 paracord and mild steel. Each pin uses a 1" piece of ¼" diameter mild steel round bar. Both ends are chamfered. Then I counterbored one side of the pin, (which is essentially drilling a slightly bigger hole than the through hole). The through hole is slightly bigger than the paracord. I then melted one end of the paracord and pulled it into the counterbore for a non-adjustable way of permanently attaching. For the other side I've essentially done the same thing. The Hackle Covers are not adjustable because they will never need adjusting. Paracord will not stretch and the unseen melted end inserted in the pins will not slip or slide out. The pin is approximately .002" smaller and should never come out until you literally pull it out. This is a super precise/precision hole that makes these covers, and the way you attach them is much better than other makers' covers.

This gives these Hackle Covers a super clean look with unmatched safety on the market.

The Hackle Covers are super easy to put on your hackle. Simply find one end of the tines with the cover, carefully capture all tines, and slide down. Insert retaining pin, eliminate any slack between that pin and the other and simply insert the other pin. Never needs adjusting. It will always fit and keep your Riley Wood and Fiber Art Hackles safe and secure from you, pets, and most importantly, children.

GENERAL PRODUCT SAFETY REGULATION (GPSR) INFORMATION

Intended Use:
Handcrafted protective wooden cover designed for use with a compatible Riley Wood and Fiber Art Wool Hackle.

The cover is designed to fit over the hackle's sharp tine field when the hackle is not in use.

A retaining pin passes through the cover and into the corresponding hole in the hackle to help hold the cover securely in place.

The cover is intended to reduce accidental contact with the sharp metal tines during storage, transport, and periods when the hackle is not being used.

The cover does not eliminate the hazard presented by the sharp tines and should not be treated as a substitute for careful handling.

CAUTION — SHARP TINES REMAIN A HAZARD

Wool Hackles contain numerous sharp metal tines.

Even when a protective cover is installed:

• Handle the hackle carefully

• Keep hands and fingers away from the tine area

• Do not press against the covered tine field

• Keep covered hackles away from children and pets

• Do not place heavy objects on the covered tine area

• This is a protective accessory for a fiber-processing tool, not a toy

BEFORE EACH USE

Inspect the hackle cover and retaining pin before installation.

Do not use or rely on the cover if:

• The wood is cracked, split, severely warped, or damaged

• The retaining pin is bent, cracked, broken, or damaged

• The retaining pin does not seat correctly in the corresponding hole

• The cover no longer fits the intended hackle properly

• The cover can move or release unexpectedly when correctly installed

• Hazardous splinters or damaged edges are present

• Any damage could allow the sharp tines to become unexpectedly exposed

COMPATIBILITY

Use the cover only with the compatible Riley Wood and Fiber Art Wool Hackle size or configuration for which it was made.

Before installation, confirm that:

• The cover fits over the intended tine field

• The retaining pin aligns with the corresponding hole in the hackle

• The cover can be positioned without forcing or bending the tines

• The retaining pin can be installed normally

• The cover remains stable when correctly secured

Do not force an incorrectly sized or incompatible cover onto a Wool Hackle.

INSTALLING THE COVER

Before installing the cover:

• Stop using the hackle

• Remove loose fiber from the tine field

• Make sure the hackle is securely supported

• Keep hands and fingers away from the tine points

Carefully position the cover over the tine field.

Align the retaining-pin opening with the corresponding hole in the hackle.

Insert the retaining pin using controlled hand pressure.

Confirm that:

• The pin is fully seated

• The cover remains correctly positioned

• The cover cannot lift or slide off unexpectedly

• The pin is not being forced into a misaligned hole

Do not hammer or force the retaining pin into position.

REMOVING THE COVER

Make sure the hackle is securely supported before removing the cover.

Keep hands and fingers away from the tine field.

Carefully remove the retaining pin using controlled hand pressure.

Lift the cover away from the tine field without dragging it across the tine points.

Once the cover is removed, the sharp tines are fully exposed.

RETAINING PIN

The retaining pin is part of the cover's safety and retention system.

Before each use, confirm that:

• The pin is present

• The pin is straight and undamaged

• The pin fits the corresponding hole normally

• The pin holds the cover securely in position

Do not substitute an incompatible nail, screw, rod, or other object for the intended retaining pin if it could damage the cover, hackle, or retention hole.

Do not use the cover as though it were securely retained if the retaining pin is missing or damaged.

SAFE HANDLING

The cover is intended primarily for protection while the Wool Hackle is not being used.

Do not:

• Use the Wool Hackle while the protective cover is installed

• Carry the entire hackle solely by holding the cover

• Rely on the cover to support the weight of the hackle

• Force the cover onto an incompatible hackle

• Modify the cover, retaining pin, or hackle hole to make an incompatible combination fit

Before moving or storing a covered hackle, gently confirm that the cover and retaining pin remain secure.

IMPORTANT — COVERS REDUCE, BUT DO NOT ELIMINATE, THE HAZARD

The protective cover reduces the likelihood of accidental contact with the sharp tines.

It does not make the Wool Hackle safe for children or eliminate the need for careful handling.

Even with the cover installed:

• Do not press against the tine area

• Do not place heavy objects on the cover

• Do not carry or store the hackle in a way that could dislodge the retaining pin or cover

• Keep away from children and pets

CARE

• Remove loose fiber and debris from the cover as needed

• Keep the wooden cover clean and dry

• Keep the retaining pin clean and dry

• Do not soak or submerge the cover in water

• Do not use harsh cleaners, solvents, or chemicals that could damage the wood or retaining components

• Wipe with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth when necessary

• Allow the cover to dry completely before storage if it becomes damp

• Periodically inspect the wood, retaining pin, and corresponding mounting hole

STORAGE

When the Wool Hackle is not in use:

• Install the cover correctly where practical

• Insert the retaining pin fully into the corresponding hole

• Confirm the cover remains securely positioned

Store the covered hackle:

• In a clean, dry location

• Away from children and pets

• Away from excessive moisture

• Protected from heavy impacts or crushing

• Where the retaining pin cannot be accidentally knocked loose

• Where the cover cannot be accidentally displaced

Do not place heavy objects directly on the cover or tine area.

DISCONTINUE USE

Stop using or relying on the hackle cover if:

• The wood cracks or splits

• The cover becomes significantly warped

• The retaining pin becomes bent, broken, or damaged

• The retaining pin no longer seats correctly

• The retaining hole becomes damaged

• The cover no longer fits the intended hackle properly

• The cover can release unexpectedly

• Damage allows the sharp tine points to become unexpectedly exposed
