Mega Turkish Drop Spindle Shafts
Every shaft I make for these Turkish Drop Spindles are turned by hand and tapered from top to bottom. This ensures a couple things. One is aesthetics, but most importantly it allows the whorls’ parts to “Lock” together. The smaller arm may be able to twist, although slightly, because the rectangular through hole on the larger whorl part is cut to barely accommodate the smaller arms passage. This ensures absolute balance right from the beginning of any new spinning project. The notch is cut into the tip of the shaft and the tip is then further turned down slightly. That gets your single to come off the shaft as centered as possible.
Every size whorl sits a distance from the bottom of the shaft that is ideal for its size and weight. Typically, and this is my opinion based purely on experience. The larger and heavier the spindle the longer the shaft should protrude from the top of the whorl, within reason. It’s not just aesthetics, it’s something that speaks directly to, and responds unequivocally to “physics” and how its performance is directly affected/effected.
You will probably not receive the spindle shaft pictured, but it will be the species pictured.
Dimensions are as follows:
Mega: Length 8.25” or 21cm. Taper .330”-.170”. The Shaft protrudes from the bottom of the whorl approximately 2 ⅜” or 6cm.
All of these Dimensions are approximate and some whorls may sit slightly higher or lower depending on species and density of wood species used, again from experience, a lighter or heavier (denser) species of wood may lend itself to sitting higher or lower on a given shaft.
All shafts are turned in a way that ensures it's on center and will stay truly straight and concentric throughout its length.
I am very open to making custom shafts to accommodate any preferences you may have for any size spindle I make, or one you have that is without its shaft.

If you need a Medium shaft, they can be found here ---> Turkish Drop Spindle Shaft - Medium – Riley Wood and Fiber Art
These Shafts may fit other makers' Spindles, but there’s no guarantee and I would not advise you buying one in the hopes of using it on other makers' spindles. That is unless you speak with me first and give me exact dimensions of the holes’ diameter, and where it is exactly, which is to say, where you want the whorl to sit on the shaft.
