Craftsmanship & Design:

This Aztec Sun Stone wall hanging represents over 32 hours of dedicated craftsmanship. The intricate carvings alone required nearly 22 hours to complete, with an additional 10 hours of CNC programming time to achieve the precise detail and dimensional accuracy. The periphery sun rays are not simply carved flat — they feature undulating surfaces that taper toward the wall, creating a truly three-dimensional effect that brings the ancient Aztec symbolism to life.

Materials & Construction:

Constructed from premium laminated solid cherry wood built to approximately 1.25 inches thick, this piece offers both beauty and durability. The central Aztec sun stone medallion is carefully recessed half an inch into the cherry base, then secured and sealed with a crystal-clear epoxy resin pour. This resin finish not only protects the intricate carving but also creates an incredible depth and high-gloss sheen that enhances the visual impact of the design.

Authentic Handmade Character:

As a handmade piece created in a small artisan studio, this wall hanging includes authentic maker's marks or "proof" that confirm its handcrafted origin. These small imperfections are not flaws — they're evidence of genuine handwork and add unique character that mass-produced pieces simply cannot replicate. Each mark tells the story of this piece's creation in my Spokane, Washington workshop.

Cultural Significance:

The Aztec Sun Stone (also known as the Calendar Stone) is one of the most iconic symbols of ancient Mesoamerican culture. This reproduction captures the intricate detail and powerful symbolism of the original, making it a meaningful addition to any space. The design represents the Aztec cosmology and their understanding of time, making this piece both visually stunning and culturally significant.

Display & Installation:

At over 19 inches in diameter and weighing approximately 7 pounds, this substantial wall hanging makes a bold statement in any room. The three-dimensional carved rays create beautiful shadow play as light changes throughout the day, adding dynamic visual interest to your space.

The back of the piece features two chamfered keyhole slots aligned vertically, spaced exactly 11 inches apart. A single drywall screw is sufficient to hang it securely, but two screws are recommended for added peace of mind — just set them 11" apart vertically and you're done. The chamfered entry on each keyhole makes lining up the piece effortless: you can feel the screw head guide right into the slot without having to see it, so hanging is quick and frustration-free. No special hardware included — standard drywall screws work perfectly.

Shipping & Packaging:

This piece ships fully insured and packed with exceptional care. It is surrounded by generous cushioning material on all sides to protect the epoxy finish and carved detail during transit, then secured inside a sturdy outer box. I take the packaging of this piece as seriously as the craftsmanship — it will arrive safely. If you have any concerns about delivery or would like to discuss shipping options, please don't hesitate to reach out before purchasing.

Care & Maintenance:

The epoxy resin finish protects the wood and carving while providing easy maintenance. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish. Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent potential fading or heat damage to the epoxy. Display in climate-controlled environments to prevent wood expansion or contraction.

If you have any questions about this piece, installation recommendations, or care instructions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm always here to answer questions and provide guidance on any of my products. I typically respond within five minutes, which I believe is extremely important in building rapport, credibility, and getting to know you as a customer.

CAUTION — HEAVY WALL-MOUNTED OBJECT

This wall hanging weighs approximately 7 lb.

Improper installation could allow the artwork to fall and cause injury or property damage.

• Installation should be performed by an adult

• Use mounting hardware appropriate for the wall construction and capable of safely supporting the artwork

• Hardware should be rated for at least 15–20 lb

• Use appropriate wall anchors or fasten into a wall stud where necessary

• Do not install over beds, cribs, play areas, seating areas, or other locations where a falling object could cause injury

• Keep children and pets away from the artwork during installation

• This is decorative wall art, not a toy

BEFORE INSTALLATION

Inspect the wall hanging before mounting.

Do not install or display the piece if:

• The laminated wooden body is cracked, split, severely warped, or structurally damaged

• The epoxy finish is severely cracked, lifting, separating, or damaged in a way that exposes unstable material

• A carved ray or other projecting detail is loose, broken, or structurally damaged

• Either keyhole slot is cracked, damaged, or weakened

• Hazardous splinters or sharp damaged edges are present

• Any condition could interfere with secure mounting or safe display

WALL MOUNTING

The back of the artwork includes two chamfered keyhole slots aligned vertically and spaced approximately 11" apart.

The piece may be supported using one or two appropriately installed screws, but two mounting points are recommended for greater stability.

If using two screws:

• Position the screws approximately 11" apart vertically

• Confirm both screws align with the keyhole slots

• Use screws and wall anchors appropriate for the wall material

• Make sure both fasteners are firmly secured before hanging the artwork

If mounting into drywall, use an appropriate drywall anchor unless the screw is secured directly into a suitable wall stud.

Do not rely on loose, undersized, damaged, or inappropriate mounting hardware.

KEYHOLE INSTALLATION

To mount the artwork:

• Support the artwork securely with both hands

• Align the wide openings of the keyhole slots with the installed screw heads

• Carefully place the artwork over the screw heads

• Slide the artwork into the narrow portions of the keyhole slots until fully seated

• Confirm the artwork rests securely against the wall

• Gently test the installation before releasing the piece completely

Do not force an oversized screw head into a keyhole slot.

Do not enlarge, carve, or otherwise modify the keyhole slots to accommodate incompatible mounting hardware.

SECURE INSTALLATION

After mounting, confirm that:

• The keyhole slots are fully engaged with the mounting hardware

• The artwork does not lift away from the screws unexpectedly

• The mounting hardware does not move or loosen

• The piece rests securely against the wall

• The artwork does not rock or shift excessively

Periodically inspect the mounting hardware, especially after the artwork has been moved, bumped, or removed and reinstalled.

3D CARVED RAYS

The outer sun rays are deeply carved three-dimensional decorative elements.

Some carved areas may project outward or form narrow edges as part of the design.

• Handle the carved perimeter carefully

• Do not pull, twist, pry, or lift the artwork by an individual carved ray

• Avoid striking the carved edges against walls, furniture, floors, or other objects

• Do not install where people are likely to brush against or bump the carved perimeter

• Keep the carved details away from the face and eyes during handling

A damaged carved edge may become sharper or splintered.

Discontinue normal handling or display if significant damage develops.

HANDLING

Because of the size and weight of this artwork:

• Support the main wooden body with both hands when practical

• Do not lift or carry the piece by the carved rays

• Do not carry the artwork by the keyhole slots

• Keep a secure grip during installation or removal

• Avoid dropping or striking the artwork

Use additional assistance if needed to safely position the piece during installation.

EPOXY RESIN SURFACE

The central carved area is sealed with a high-gloss epoxy resin finish.

Do not:

• Cut, drill, sand, grind, burn, or intentionally alter the cured resin surface

• Expose the artwork to open flame or excessive heat

• Use harsh solvents or abrasive cleaners on the epoxy

• Place hot objects against the resin surface

If the epoxy becomes severely cracked, separated, or damaged, avoid handling damaged edges until the condition has been evaluated.

INDOOR DISPLAY ONLY

Display in a climate-controlled indoor environment.

Avoid:

• Excessive humidity

• Prolonged moisture exposure

• Rapid temperature changes

• Excessive heat

• Open flames

• Prolonged direct sunlight where practical

Wood movement caused by severe environmental changes may affect the laminated structure, carved details, epoxy finish, or mounting fit.

PLACEMENT

Choose the display location carefully.

Do not install:

• Over a bed

• Over a crib

• Over a child's play area

• Directly above regularly occupied seating

• In a narrow walkway where the carved perimeter may be struck

• On an unstable or unsuitable wall

• Where doors or furniture can repeatedly contact the artwork

• Near open flame or significant heat sources

CARE

• Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth

• Do not use abrasive pads or cleaners

• Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents

• Do not soak or wash the artwork

• Avoid excessive moisture

• Take care around the carved outer rays while cleaning

• Do not apply heavy pressure to carved details

• Periodically inspect the keyhole slots and wall-mounting hardware

STORAGE

If the artwork is removed from the wall:

• Store in a clean, dry, climate-controlled location

• Lay flat in a protected area where practical

• Protect the carved perimeter from impact

• Do not stack heavy objects on top of the artwork

• Protect the epoxy surface from scratching

• Protect the keyhole slots from damage

• Keep away from excessive heat, moisture, and rapid temperature changes

DISCONTINUE DISPLAY

Remove the artwork from display if:

• A keyhole slot becomes cracked or damaged

• Mounting hardware becomes loose or unstable

• The laminated wood develops significant structural cracking or separation

• A carved ray or perimeter section becomes loose or badly damaged

• The epoxy surface develops damage that creates unstable or sharp edges

• Hazardous splinters develop

• Any condition develops that could interfere with secure mounting or safe display
