Standard and Fine-Tooth Wool Combs

These standard or fine-tooth wool combs are hand crafted with great care, attention to detail, and from good quality materials. The head is Maple, and the handles are turned from Maple or Hickory. They are very light weight at 7-10 ounces per comb. Build tough with precision and durability in mind. Every detail won’t mind your Attention because attention to detail is my default 🤭.

Combing Fiber can be relaxing and is a great hands-on experience, as you get to watch your progress pile up, you are riding your fleece of vegetable matter and getting your fiber ready for carding or spinning.

They will fit ergonomically in your hands.

A light and powerful tool for combing finer, shorter staple length fibers. These are considered either a standard or fine-tooth comb. Made from Tempered Stainless. They will not rust or deteriorate over time.

Standard Tine density:

Spaced 1/4 inch apart between the rows and each other. There are between 12 and 46 tines in all. Fine Tooth Density: Spaced 3/16 inch apart between the rows and each other. There are between 15 and 62 in all.

The overall size of the head for a single row is 3 1/2” wide by 1" deep by 1” tall. The overall size of the head for a double, triple or quadruple row is 3 1/2” wide by 1 1/4" deep by 1” tall.

Standard configuration combs have the following number of tines:

Single Row: 12 tines

Double Row: 23 tines

Triple Row: 33 tines

Quadruple Row: 46 tines

Fine tooth configuration combs have the following number of tines:

Single Row: 15 tines

Double Row: 31 tines

The main purposes of combing fiber include but are not limited to straightening and aligning fibers, ridding fleece of vegetable and other loose matter and debris, separating and opening up fiber for carding, and loosening up the fiber for carding and eventually spinning.

The wood is hand rubbed with an eco-friendly Danish oil, sanded and then repeated until smooth. They are a set, and the heads of the combs are linearly matched or book matched, depending. These would not be suitable to comb a living sheep 🐑. Baaa!
